On August 31, the opening defense of the second advanced training class for chemical safety compound talents was successfully held.The school and the center attach great importance to the defense work. Yang Chaohe, Dean of the School of Chemical Engineering, Chen Guoming, a member of the Ten Thousand Thousand Talents Program of the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, State Council Government Special Allowance Expert, and Liu Yi, Vice Dean of the School of Chemical Engineering, respectively serve as the leaders of the three defense groups. Relevant teachers and technical experts from the School of Chemical Engineering, the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the School of Information Control, and the China University of Petroleum (East China) Safety, Environmental Protection and Energy Conservation Technology Center served as defense experts.

According to the training goals and methods of chemical safety compound talents, the types of theses of this year's students are divided into five categories: master's thesis, research paper, technical research report, new technology research and development/introduction and application report, comprehensive research and application report.The content of the thesis focuses on the creative results and innovative insights obtained in the scientific research of chemical process safety, the actual engineering application of the enterprise in the chemical process safety, the problems and solutions that the students are concerned about in the safety production technology and management of the company, and participate in the research and development. Applied new technologies/new management models, and students’ new views and implementation plans on safety economics/safety psychology/engineering ethics, etc.
The defense expert group strictly controlled the practicability of the topic selection of the thesis, the depth of the topic selection research, the feasibility of the research route, and the reasonableness of the time planning, and aimed at the deviation of the direction of the topic selection of the students and the training ideas of chemical safety. Inappropriate, unclear research content, unclear specific solutions, unclear technical routes and other issues, the trainees combined their actual work and exchanged and discussed with experts.A total of 83 students applied for the defense, 76 of them successfully passed the defense, and 7 students failed the defense due to the content of the thesis and other reasons. They need to further discuss the topic selection with the instructor.The 76 students who passed the defense will complete the research and writing of the thesis in the next year, under the two-way guidance of the center's mentor team and the company's on-site mentors, through the training method of "three continuous lines".

        Compared with the first senior research class, the graduation thesis writing requirements and tutor guidance form of this senior research class have been optimized and updated. The thesis guidance of the students is guided by the previous single tutor point-to-point, and updated to the joint training of the on-campus tutor team and on-site tutors.On-site tutors are generally held by the trainees’ chemical safety experts in their own units, so that trainees can answer questions at any time in combination with actual production. The on-campus mentor team brings together high-level excellent teachers from China University of Petroleum (East China) in chemical engineering, safety, storage and transportation, equipment, control, etc., and makes full use of the school’s advanced teaching platform to provide students with chemical safety systematization. The comprehensive guidance of professional theory practice and advanced management concept fully embodies the high starting point, high standard, innovative training and strict requirements of the advanced training class for chemical safety compound talents.

       Background introduction of the advanced training class for chemical safety compound talents: According to the requirements of the "Guiding Opinions of the Ministry of Education and the State Administration of Work Safety on Strengthening the Training of Chemical Safety Talents" (Jiaogao [2014] No. 4), China University of Petroleum (East China) In 2015, as the first batch of the only pilot colleges and universities to start the training of chemical safety compound talents, the aim is to train chemical safety compound talents with international vision and professional qualities.At present, all the students of the first advanced training class have successfully graduated and become outstanding chemical safety experts in their units. The 138 students of the second advanced training class have completed six intensive theoretical courses and conducted open questions, and the 102 students of the third session are studying intensively for the second time.
